The sanctuary is more than the Holy of Holies of the Old Testament. As of old, God pitched His tent in Israel, but in the fullness of time, the Incarnate Son of God dwells among His people in His body, soul, and divinity. The threefold crescendo inscription of SANCTUS on the risers of the steps leading into the sanctuary proper is a reminder of God’s sacred dwelling while the first line of St. Thomas Aquinas’s Eucharistic hymn, Adoro te, lantens Deitas, gilded in gold leaf, adorns the high arch orients the Sisters in worship: for “God here in hiding whom I adore.”
